SAM ALAWIE, MDT

Founder / CEO of Beverly Hills Dental Labs

Sam Alawie completed his Master DentalTechnician degree in Brussels, Belgium in 1994. He migrated to the United States in 2003. In 2006 he established and founded Beverly Hills Dental Labs in Beverly Hills, California.

Sam is a recognized leader in the dental industry and has been featured in various dental publications for his influence and dedication to the profession of dentistry.

His expertise is on the importance of technical clinical communications and their implementations for successful case planning and patient satisfaction. He is a keen and avid supporter and member of many study groups.

He instructed various hands-on crown and bridge courses and hosted presentations throughout the MiddleEast, Europe and the United States.

In 2014, Sam opened a state-of-the-art educational facility, which offers a spacious venue where dental professionals and students can come together to advance their knowledge, practice their craftsmanship, and exchange ideas. The educational facility offers and fosters a wide range of training programs, study groups, and continuing education courses, including advanced classes with world renowned dental specialists.

In 2020 Mr. Willi Geller of the Oral Design Foundation based in Switzerland invited Sam to be an active member of the Oral Design Family. Since then, Sam has been invited to be an associate member of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, as well as an affiliate member of the Pacific Coast Society for Prosthodontics.

In 2022, Sam established Magne Education, a globally recognized dental continuing education organization for dentists, where he currently serves as the CEO.

MICHEL MAGNE, MDT

Aesthetic Director at Beverly Hills Dental Labs

Aesthetic Director, Michel Magne is a renowned master ceramist and expert in the art and science of aesthetic dentistry. An internationally sought-after speaker and educator, Michel lectures and teaches at some of the top dental schools both in the U.S. and abroad, including UCLA, University of Southern California, New York University, University of Geneva, and University of Barcelona, Spain.

Michel specializes in aesthetic rehabilitations and bonded porcelain restorations, and has published extensively on these topics. He has also served on the editorial boards of the European Journal of Esthetic Dentistry, International Journal of Brazilian Dentistry, International Journal of Dental Technology, and Journal of Aesthetic Dentistry. Before working at Beverly Hills Dental Labs, Michel was an associate professor of clinical dentistry and director of the Center for Dental Technology at the University of Southern California. He also ran his own laboratory, 901 Oral Design, in Marina del Rey. Prior to that, Michel spent 12 years as the owner and director of the Oral Design Center at the Dental Laboratory in Montreux, Switzerland. Earlier in his career, he directed and served as master ceramist at two Swiss-based dental laboratories, where he specialized in implant-supported work, complex oral rehabilitation, and bonded porcelain restorations.

Michel’s brother, Pascal Magne DMD, PhD., is a world renowned dentist, and leader in adhesive dentistry techniques, biomimetic dentistry, and is the founder of the Academy of Biomimetic Dentistry. He and Michel share ideas from their respective fields of practice, which has led to innovations in restorative dentistry techniques and the creation of new materials.

Michel received his Dental Technician certification in 1979 in his home country of Switzerland. In addition to his MDT degree, he holds a B.S. in dental technology from Southern Illinois University. He is an associate member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, and the International Society for Digital Dentistry.

PASCAL MAGNE, DMD, MSC, PHD

Director of Education at Beverly Hills Dental Labs

Dr. Pascal Magne (pronounced mahn-ya) recently joined Beverly Hills Dental Lab as Director of its Center for Education and Research in Biomimetic Restorative Dentistry (CER BRD), after a long and distinguished career in dental academia and research.

Upon graduating from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, in 1989 with a Med Dent degree,he was offered a position as a lecturer at the dental school, while practicing and receiving further training in fixed prosthodontics and other technical skills. At the same time, he pursued two doctorates, one awarded in 1992 (DMD) and the other in 2002 (Ph.D.), the latter in conjunction with co-authoring the book Bonded Porcelain Restorations in the Anterior Dentition—A Biomimetic Approach, with his mentor, Professor Urs Belser, which has been translated into 12 languages. « The biomimetic principle refers to using technology and dental materials to preserve and replicate the structure and function of teeth, » he explained. He would add to his research on dental innovations at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1997-1999, before returning to Geneva. His discoveries have been widely published, resulting in many awards.Before his graduation from dental school, Pascal had been captivated by the beautiful photos of the lifelike porcelain restorations created by his older brother, Michel, who was the in-house technician for a dentist.

In 1991, Pascal started working with Claude Sieber using a new dental porcelain developed with Vita. It was a turning point. « For the first time I could see the porcelain of a master inside of the mouth of my own patients, » he said. Pascal was recruited as a full-time tenured faculty of the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California School in 2004, as the Don and Sybil Harrington Professor of Esthetic dentistry.During his tenure at Ostrow, Dr. Magne spearheaded a multitude of curricular innovations in the areas of biomimetics, minimally invasive dentistry, and bonding techniques. His scholarly activity during his years there yielded over 100 peer-reviewed publications and over 200 continuing education programs nationally and internationally.

As the preclinical director (2012-2020) of the Dental Morphology, Function and Esthetics module at Ostrow, Dr. Magne has also developed an innovative approach to teaching dental anatomy and morphology. In 2021, Dr. Magne published the second edition of his bestselling book entitled Biomimetic Restorative Dentistry. It has already been translated into several languages.After 33 years in the Academia, Dr. Magne eagerly accepted the exciting opportunity of the CER BRD educational programs offered by Beverly Hills Dental Laboratory last year.
